When to Visit

The dry season, from December to April, is the most comfortable time to visit the Mekong Delta, with less rain and pleasant temperatures. The rainy season (May to November) sees more frequent showers, but the rivers are at their fullest and the landscape is lush. Floating markets operate year-round, but mornings are the best time to visit.

What to Do

Highlights include visiting Cai Rang Floating Market near Can Tho, taking a sampan boat through the canals of Ben Tre, and exploring rural villages by bicycle. Homestays offer a chance to experience local hospitality and food. In Chau Doc, you can visit fish farms and see the border area with Cambodia. Street food and local specialties, such as hu tieu noodle soup and coconut candy, are widely available.

Practical Tips

Bring cash, as ATMs are limited in smaller towns. Lightweight clothing and sun protection are recommended, as the region is hot and humid. English is spoken at hotels and on tours, but less so in rural areas. Book boat tours and homestays in advance during weekends and holidays.
