Tet (Lunar New Year)
Across Vietnam · Tet 2027: February 6–10, 2027
The biggest holiday of the year: streets light up, markets overflow, and much of the country pauses for a week. Book transport well ahead.

About this event
When it happens
Tet follows the lunar calendar, so the date moves each year. Tet 2027 begins on February 6, with the public holiday running February 4–10. Festivities start days earlier, when flower markets open and cities begin their spring clean.
What to expect
Families reunite, homes are decorated with kumquat trees and apricot or peach blossoms, and banh chung (sticky rice cakes) are made in the kitchen. Fireworks light up Hanoi and HCMC at midnight, and streets stay lively with markets, lion dances, and visitors in ao dai.
Travel tips
Book trains, flights, and hotels months ahead — the whole country moves at once. Many shops and restaurants close for several days, so plan meals around hotel dining and street stalls in tourist areas. Join the Nguyen Hue Flower Street walk in HCMC or the flower markets in Hanoi for the easiest way to experience the holiday as a visitor.
