About this event

What happens

Every Sunday morning, Bac Ha town in Lao Cai province hosts its vibrant weekly market. Local ethnic minorities, including the Flower H'mong, gather to trade goods such as fresh produce, livestock, and handicrafts. The market is filled with colorful stalls, lively bargaining, and traditional foods.

What people do

Visitors can wander through the bustling aisles, sample local specialties like thắng cố (a traditional horse meat soup), and watch artisans at work. Many people buy hand-embroidered textiles and silver jewelry directly from the makers. The market is also a popular place for socializing and taking photographs of the traditional costumes worn by locals.

Practical tips

Arrive early in the morning for the best experience, as the market is most active before noon. Bac Ha is about three hours by road from Sapa, so consider arranging transport in advance or joining a guided tour. Wear comfortable shoes and bring cash, as most vendors do not accept cards.
