About this event

What happens

The Perfume Pagoda Festival takes place at the Perfume Pagoda complex in the Huong Son mountains, about 60 km southwest of Hanoi. Pilgrims and visitors gather to pay homage at the main Huong Tich Cave and other temples, participating in rituals and prayers for luck and prosperity. The festival typically runs from the first lunar month, drawing thousands throughout the spring.

What people do

Participants trek or take boat rides along the Yen River to reach the pagoda, stopping at various shrines and caves along the route. Many join in communal prayers, make offerings, and enjoy local food stalls set up near the temple grounds. Visitors also hike up the mountain paths or use the cable car to reach Huong Tich Cave, known for its stalactites and spiritual significance.

Practical tips

Expect large crowds, especially on weekends and early in the festival, so plan to arrive early in the day. Wear comfortable shoes for walking and bring water, as the trek can be strenuous and facilities are limited. Public transport from Hanoi is available, but booking a guided tour can help navigate the busy festival and ensure you see the main sites.
