About this event

The occasion

The Hung Kings' Festival honors the legendary founders of Vietnam at Hung Temple in Phu Tho province. The main ceremony falls on the 10th day of the third lunar month — April 16 in 2027 — and is a national holiday.

What to expect

Processions climb the mountain to the temple complex with palanquins, banners, and folk troupes. Visitors join in offering incense, watching drum performances, and trying local specialties like banh chung and banh giay.

Getting there

Hung Temple is about 90km northwest of Hanoi, a two-hour drive. Public buses and tour minivans run from My Dinh station, and the site is walkable with a cable car option. Expect huge crowds — go early in the morning.
