About this event

The market

Cai Rang is the Mekong Delta's largest floating market, on a branch of the Hau river about six kilometers from Can Tho's center. Boats hang produce samples from poles so buyers can order without docking — the delta's classic retail system.

When to go

The market runs year-round, but the real show is at dawn. Boats begin arriving around 5:30am and the river is busiest between 6 and 8am. Go early for the light, the noodle boats, and the crowds before the heat builds.

How to visit

Join a sampan tour from Can Tho's Ninh Kieu wharf (about an hour each way) or hire a private boat at Cai Rang itself. Bring cash — breakfast on a floating noodle boat is part of the experience. A return trip leaves time for the fruit orchards nearby.
