About this event

What happens

The Quintessence of Tonkin is an outdoor cultural performance held near Chua Thay Pagoda, just outside Hanoi. The show combines water, music, dance, and light to tell stories about northern Vietnam's history and traditions. The stage is set on a lake, creating a unique visual experience for the audience.

What people do

Visitors gather at the open-air amphitheater by the lake to watch the performance, which features hundreds of local performers. Many guests arrive early to explore the nearby Chua Thay Pagoda before the show. Photography is allowed, but flash should be avoided to respect the performers and other guests.

Practical tips

The show usually starts in the evening, so bring a light jacket as it can get cool by the water. Transportation from central Hanoi can be arranged by taxi or shuttle bus, and it's best to arrive at least 30 minutes before the show begins. Seating is assigned, so check your ticket for your seat number upon arrival.
