About this event

What happens

The Yen Tu Spring Festival takes place at the Yen Tu Mountain complex near Uong Bi City in Quang Ninh Province. The event marks the beginning of the lunar new year and features Buddhist ceremonies at the Dong Pagoda, located at the mountain's summit. Pilgrims and visitors gather to pray, join processions, and witness traditional performances.

What people do

Participants hike up the mountain trails or take the cable car to reach the sacred pagodas, including Hoa Yen and Dong Pagoda. Many people light incense, make offerings, and join in chanting sessions with monks. Visitors also explore the historic temples and enjoy vegetarian food stalls set up along the pilgrimage route.

Practical tips

The festival usually starts after Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) and can get very crowded, especially on weekends. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as the hike can be strenuous and the weather unpredictable. Arriving early in the morning helps avoid the largest crowds and allows for a more peaceful experience at the summit.
